Piano and harpsichord lessons for students of all ages and abilities are available, which include a focus on technical skills, musicality, familiarity with keyboard literature, music theory, sight-reading, improvisation and solfege. Performance opportunities are available and recommended, and Dr. Powers is an active member of the WSMTA Tacoma and Mount Rainier chapters. Teaching experience includes teaching full-time at the college level, as well as 20 years experience giving individual lessons to children and adults of all ages and levels of experience. Dr. Powers is a WSMTA Visiting Artists with the MAPS program, working with numerous studios each spring, as well as a frequent clinician and competition judge.
Lark Powers' teaching philosophy involves creating a nurturing and safe environment where students can pursue music in a way that is most beneficial to their individual goals. Students are challenged to achieve their highest potential and are provided with with the tools to take responsibility for their own progress, and ultimately, to become independent and creative musicians and music lovers.
